Sometimes, we just need a reminder or quick tips to help us become better. A lot of sites out there list out a long list of useful tips that you might forget after the fifth, so we decided to choose 4 of the best. These tips will surely help you become at least slightly better in taking family pictures.
1. Help with wardrobe choice
A lot of photographers forget that the right outfit will make that much of a difference! As a Jacksonville family photographer, you need to be able to help your clients in deciding the kind of clothing they should go for. At least, set a color theme that you know will look good with the venue that you are planning to take pictures at.
Remind them about it before the photography day as well. You can’t have several of the family members out of sync from the other, so this is important.
2. Engage in real life activities
The old way of taking family pictures is still often used. In fact, a lot of the older generations would prefer it to take family pictures in a formal way. But you also deal with small, young family at times. Should you just go and also suggest formal style to them?
Suit your style with the client you are working with. The young family typically loves to have pictures that look natural. Meaning, they like it when the whole family doesn’t have to pose and line up like the elders do. You can check out some of them on www.jaxphotographer.com, Jacksonville family photographer site.
Bring the family out to the beach or park and have them play. Having fun will help them relax and show their smiles more naturally. You also don’t have to make the effort of trying to create a comfortable atmosphere.
3. Photographer vs. Mums
Sometimes, moms want to take over the whole session. Or at least, she wants her kids to pose the best way she wants them to. And sometimes, you are very eager to tell them that, Ma’am, I am the photographer here and I know how to make the whole family looks best.
Hold it right there and think about it. Moms have taken care of their children for years. They know things we didn’t know, such as poses that their children actually look good in. Moms also know how to make their kids listen and stay, which you really need. At the same time, full control isn’t how you conduct photography kids.
So, while letting parents retain their control, tell the mothers that having fun is the theme. So, if they want to jump and bath in the sand (so long as it is not dangerous), let them express themselves. They won’t get another chance at it anyway and this is for the sake of some really good pictures!
4. Know them!
Never forget that you are dealing with people you don’t know. You are the Jacksonville family photographer in charge of their family pictures and to be honest, they don’t know who you are! One way to make them trust you is to build rapport with them. Take 10 or 15 minutes before the session to talk with dad or mom as you get prepared. You should also use the time during the consultation.
